"Us" is really one person, myself, Alicia Sotomayor Hermosilla. I decided to build this website because Fantasy Art has become a passion that I want to share with others.
I would like this website to educate, to inspire, to entertain, to elevate the spirit and to help Fantasy Artists worldwide that need support and recognition.
A little more about myself:
I was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in a family of artists. I studied in "La Escuela de Bellas Artes" of Guayaquil, Ecuador but I already had been earning income as a portrait artist prior to that.
My mother was Alicia Hermosilla de Sotomayor, who was a talented Chilean painter who married my Ecuadorian father and both got settled in Guayaquil where they raised a family of eight children.
My father was Dr. Gonzalo Sotomayor Navas, a bacteriologist, a veterinarian, a professor, a writer, a humanitarian, a photographer, a free thinker, etc., among many other things.
I grew up in a home surrounded by art and science books, but mainly
by the love, warmth and encouragement of two exceptional parents. My
mother was an artist that instilled beauty in everything she did. How
she motivated all of us children to create art, to write or paint. We
spent many hours creating unique paper dolls, plus drawing, painting,
writing stories, poems, etc.
Before I learned to talk I was looking the world through a little hole
I made with my fingers or through a paper hole to "capture"
the best angle of anything. I really loved to do that, to compose and
to design. That's why I love Photography. I take pictures of most of
my subjects before doing their portraits or landscapes.
Being the second child, I had live models in my brothers and I started doing portraits when I was eight. Later I used my own children as models - when they were sleeping!! I also wrote poetry when I was a child and a teenager which was published by "The Casa De la Cultura of Guayaquil".
As a teenager I designed and I started sewing all my clothes. Later I designed and sewed my wedding dress, my husband's shirts and all my children's clothes. Everybody thought they were imported. I designed rag dolls that sold pretty well in Guayaquil.
I did portrait painting in Guayaquil, London and USA but eventually stopped because I enjoy more creating fantasy art.
With my art I would like to transport you to a world that is enchanted and where your heart can fly and feel free!
My favorite artists? Henri Rousseau, Leonardo Da Vinci and my mother, among many others. In the Fantasy Art genre, Howard David Johnson, Yuehui Tang, Boris Vallejo, Amy Brown, etc., (too many to list).
I will start painting and creating more of my own Fantasy Art again sometime soon.
I'm learning web mastering skills so I can build these pages myself. This website will have about 100 pages at least, so please be patient and come visit often, you will possibly find new pages or new content every time you come back.
Thanks for your visit,
Alicia Sotomayor
