African Fantasy Art
Most African Art is based on rich fantasy themes, expressed in colorful paintings, masks, canes, ceramic, statues, jewelry, textiles, canes, everyday utensils, etc.
African artists are spread all over the world. There are several organizations that support them. It is a superb lively art that brings to the fantasy art lover uniquely rich art, influenced by their equally rich culture and surroundings. I cannot but deeply love and admiire African Art. Some of it reminds me of Henri Rousseau's primitive art, one of my favorite.
In this page I'm including links to books and prints. The artists that created the prints may or may not be of African origin because I'm showcasing in this page not only the beauty of African art but African influenced art regardless of citizenship... I love fantasy art wherever I may find it!
Tingatinga African Art
Description of Tingatinga Art taken from a comment from eBay seller afroartplus from Australia:
"Original and Unique Hand painted African Art, Tingatinga painting
is a exceptional style of painting. You will not see this type of african
art anywhere else in the world. Tingatinga african art is primarily
produced and sold in Tanzania. It all started with a man called Eduardo
Saidi Tingatinga, a self-taught painter born in a village in southern
Tanzania (Tunduru District), hit upon a successful formula which quickly
found a market in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania largest city). He created
fantastic, colourful images of animals and people. Soon he attracted
young followers and the Tingatinga School arose, based in Msasani, Dar
es Salaam. Although Tingatinga died in 1972, still relatively young,
his vision lives on in works of Amonde, Mruta, Tedo, Mkemia, Rashidi,
Mpochogo,Hamad,Chriss and others. Tingatinga African Art can be described
as folk art or abstract art. Often painting the Maasai in their bright
coloured cloth. African artwork is beyond doubt a unique style of painting.
No two paintings will ever be the same."

This may not be the "Fantasy Art" we are used

I'm including it here. Sometimes it's hard to draw a line...
